Who wants to be a......DOCTOR?

'Who wants to be a millionaire?' was one of the famous TV show in m'sia, and also in many other countries in the world. Similarly, I actually noticed that there is an increasing trend in the amount of prospective undergrads who are really 'interested' to read medicine. Perhaps, there will soon be a new TV game show entitled 'Who wants to be a medical doctor?'. Have you ever wondered why such a phenomenon can occur?

Most of the 'prospective medical students' always claim that they wanna read medicine bcos: 1st, medicine really interests them; 2nd, they really wanna treat the patients; 3rd, they wud like to save lives. Most of you might think, well, all these are very valid reasons. I might agree with you. However, are all these reasons that actually aspire all the students to apply for the course? Well, personally, i dun think so.

As we know, most of the time, it is extremely hard to be enrolled as a medical student (this might not be true in certain unis). Bsides fulfilling the academic requirements, one needs to impress the interviewers and convince them that it is worthwhile to permit him/her to study medicine in their uni. Undoubtedly, most medical students have very brilliant academic performance. However, do they perform equally good in terms of their personalities? Do they really know what makes a GOOD DOCTOR?

Some ppl study medicine bcos this is wat their parents want?
Some ppl study medicine bcos this career guarantees them a good income in the future?
Some ppl study medicine bcos of the title 'Dr.' , which can let them enjoy a high social status?
Some ppl study medicine bcos they perform relatively better than others and this is the only course that can show their real abilities?

So, what do u think?

Sorry...I cant provide you an ans now coz i m confused. I m confused not bcoz i dunnoe y i wanna b a doctor (Of coz i know), but i m confused whether these are good reasons for a person to fight for a place in medical schs.

Smart docs are always good docs?

A doctor is given the title 'Dr.' is bcoz of what they can actually contribute to the patients and medical field. However, if a doctor always think about his or her best interest b4 consider about wat the patients really need, i think it is shameful to hold the title.

As a 1st yr medical student, and with my extremely limited knowledge in medical field, this is all that I can comment right now. The comments might be very judgemental and are not neccessarily always true, however, they are all my sincere comments. And of coz, i have met many good doctors and medical students in my life.

After all, i still want to be a good doctor.

Metamorphosis?

Growing up = Becoming more mature?

I just read an article posted on a fren's blog which is about 'maturity'. Overall I think that article was very well written and there is one particular quotable quote by Eleanor Roosevelt (Wife of US 32nd president), which really impressed me very much. Here is the quote:

“A mature person is one who does not think only in absolutes, who is able to be objective even when deeply stirred emotionally, who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and all things, and who walks humbly and deals charitably.”

So, do you agree?

Personally, I think the word 'maturity' has a broad definition. In terms of physical development, maturity means the stage whereby all the structures of the body have been completely developed and can function fully. On the other hand, maturity can be defined as a quality of behaving and thinking like an adult.

So, what are the behaviours and thoughts that an adult shud hav in order to be classified as a mature person?

A person who does not think only in absolutes?

This is quite true. Ppl always tend to make their judgement based on wat they believe without actually analyse the situation carefully. For instance, our society always thinks that those who do not perform well academically are fated to be failures in the future. However, is this neccessary true? Undeniably, a good education qualification does play a role in securing a good job in the future, but what makes a person to be successful in his or her career is the level of dedication in achieving the goals in his or her working life. Hence, there are no absolutes in one's fate but there are plenty of opportunities and probabilities in one's life.

Mature ppl=objective ppl?

I must really agree with this because I think it is extremely hard to be objective when we encounter certain issues in our life. However, we can always try to be more objective by tackling the situation from a third party's point of view, as in try to analyse the problems as if you are not involved in it. For example, whenever you have an argument with someone, always try to view it as if you are a third party to the situation, and think of possible solutions to solve the problem. Remember, don't let your emotion affects your judgement.

Are you good? or bad?

Indeed, there are both good and bad in every single person, every single thing in the world. Nth is perfect in this world. Always, if possible, try to accept both good and bad qualities of other ppl. No one will like to develop bad habits and attitudes. They are not perfect because they are still learning how to be good, n this learning process continues until the end of their life. Therefore, dun hesitate to give ppl chances to turn over a new leaf.

Are you humble enough as a mature person?

Do you like a person who is humble and is willing to learn things fr others; or you prefer someone who is always boast about his or her achievements? Make your decision if you are mature enough. If you expect ppl to be wat u want them to be, you shud oso do the same thing as well.

So, do you still think that you are a mature person? Well, I m definitely not an immature young lad anymore. However, I think I stil hav a lot more to do in order to be a MATURE PERSON.

Cheers!
