While I was still in Cardiff I had heard about the fuel price hike which happened in Malaysia. I was wondering what kind of effect will it have on the living cost back home. Things have become evident when I m back in JB.
The newspaper reported that the inflation rate of this year would be 6-7%. For a person who knows very little about Economy like me, i will give you a very simple example. Last Summer, a plate of Fried Kuay Tiow costed me RM 3 but this Summer I have to pay RM 3.50 for the same amount of it. Imagine if I have to eat 2 plates of it everyday, i will have to pay an extra RM 30 in a mth.
On the other hand, the petrol price is high too.
Last year, my Kancil (the smallest car and probably the most economical car in terms of petrol consumption) consumed about RM 40 for a full tank of petrol. This year, it needs RM 50 to top up the same amount of petrol. On average, I visit the petrol kiosk once a week so i will need to pay an extra RM40 every mth.
According to my mum, the price of rice and paper are also increased, and many other things as well, except for 1 thing: the income of my Pa.
Just read a news about the British Prime Minister is having his holidays in the UK as he wants to show an example not to waste unnecessary money during this difficult situation. In Malaysia, similar effort was shown by the Terengganu State Government where we saw the purchase of the Mercedes Benz cars to replace our beloved Proton's flagship: Proton Perdana Executive V6. It claimed that this is a money saving measure as the Perdana requires a huge amount of ringgits for the maintenance. However, the Proton's spokeperson thought otherwise and said that it was incorrect.
A Mercedes Benz costs RM 400K while a Perdana costs around RM 160K (rough estimates). The Terengganu Government spent around RM 10 - 100K ++ for the maintenance for 1 Perdana. So the maintenance fee for 2 years on a Perdana will be more than enough to get a new Perdana. No wonder they want to change to Mercedes Benz (MB) la. Hence the state government spent RM 3 mil to get 16 brand new MB as they don't want to waste the rakyat's money anymore.
Does this mean that we will see more MB on the road next time since it is a money-saving measure used by the government of a state? We shall wait and see then.

haha... your abbreviation is funny la... MB usually appears as Menteri Besar for me (a regular reader of Malaysiakini).
Yea, change MB would be better solution. Maybe another MB would know to handle the microeconomics better just for their cars. =P
inflation of 6-7% would mean your RM10 today will only be RM9.30 - 9.40 next year this time. That means the money had devalued and hence you will need to dig deeper into your pocket to pay for things.
